It is believed that Perrault, who penned one of the most popular versions of the tale, likely encountered Straparola's story is the oldest known written version, "Puss in Boots" is a European fairy tale that has been adapted and changed across various cultures. Perrault's French version, published in 1697 in Stories or Tales of Past Times, is widely considered the most famous iteration. The story's enduring popularity has led to numerous adaptations, including the character's appearance in the Shrek franchise and subsequent spin-offs, as well as its representation in various media, including anime and pantomimes.
