Vintage George W. Horner Floral Sweet Tin

.

Chester-le-Street, County Durham | c.1920s–1930s

.

A beautifully time-worn survivor from the golden age of British confectionery, this charming decorative tin was produced by George W. Horner & Co. Ltd, the well-known County Durham sweet makers whose treats were once sold across the North of England.

.

Originally filled with toffees or assorted sweets, tins like this were designed to be kept long after the contents had been enjoyed — and it’s easy to see why. The richly coloured midnight blue ground is covered in a joyful scattering of flowers, leaves and folk-style motifs, centred around a delicate rose cartouche. Its elegant octagonal form and softly stepped lid give it a distinctive presence.

.

Today, this piece carries the gentle patina of nearly a century — the kind of honest wear that gives vintage tins their warmth and character.

.

Perfect for:

Sewing or craft storage

Jewellery or keepsakes

Kitchenalia or pantry display

Cottage, country or vintage interiors

Collectors of British confectionery or Durham memorabilia

.
