A beautifully decorative Edwardian silver-mounted hobnail cut glass dressing table box, made by W. J. Myatt & Co of Birmingham. The rectangular glass body is finely cut in a raised hobnail pattern, giving it wonderful sparkle and texture, with a star-cut base and gently flared form.

The sterling silver lid is especially attractive, with embossed scrolling foliage, floral detail and a vacant central cartouche. The hallmarks show WJM & Co, for W. J. Myatt & Co, with Birmingham assay marks dating the piece to around 1907.

This is a lovely example of Edwardian dressing table silver — practical, elegant and highly decorative. Boxes like this would have been used for jewellery, trinkets, hairpins, vanity items or small keepsakes.

Condition:

Good antique condition with age-related surface wear and patina to the silver. The hobnail glass displays beautifully; there may be the odd tiny flea bite or nibble to the cut edges, as expected with antique cut glass the lid is original and fits snuggly. Please see photographs
