Vintage Vincent’s Harvino Marzipan Toffee Tin

England, c. 1920s–1930s

.

A wonderfully characterful vintage sweet tin advertising Vincent’s Harvino Marzipan Toffee, complete with its original sliding lid and richly aged surface. The typography and muted colour palette – cream ground with deep green and warm brown lettering – are classic interwar confectionery design, and the honest wear tells its story beautifully.

.

This is exactly the sort of tin collectors and stylists love: not over-restored, not polished to death, just authentically timeworn. It works equally well as a display piece, prop, or atmospheric storage for odds and ends.

.

Condition

Good vintage condition, with expected age-related wear throughout: surface scratches, scuffs, rubbed lettering and patina consistent with age and use. Structurally sound, lid fits well. No holes or major damage – all the charm you want, none of the problems you don’t.

Maker History

Vincent’s Harvino was a British confectionery brand best known for its marzipan-based sweets and toffees during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The name Harvino was a trademark used specifically for their marzipan confections, which were marketed as a slightly more luxurious treat at a time when boxed sweets and decorative tins were part of everyday gifting culture.

.

Like many confectioners of the period, Vincent’s used robust, reusable tins both to protect the sweets and to ensure the packaging lived on long after the contents were enjoyed – which is precisely why examples like this still surface today. Original tins from smaller or now-defunct makers such as Vincent’s are increasingly sought after, particularly when the graphics remain legible and the tin retains its original lid.

Why we love it

Because tins like this weren’t meant to survive – and yet here it is, still doing its job a century later, still looking fabulous while it’s at it.
