A wonderfully atmospheric vintage metal storage box with a strong military, workshop and industrial look. Finished in worn black paint with orange/yellow stencilled lettering, this piece has exactly the sort of timeworn surface that collectors, stylists and interior decorators love — scuffed, chipped, scratched and full of character.

The front appears to read “CON… BOB… AB 910”, with further partially worn stencilling to the lid. There is also faint impressed lettering visible beneath the paint, though it is difficult to make out with certainty. The box has a hinged lid, metal carry handle to the top, side handle detail, riveted construction and a pleasingly rugged utilitarian form. It may originally have been used as an ammunition, equipment or industrial storage box, though without clearer markings I would avoid making a definite military attribution.

This would make a fabulous decorative storage piece for a vintage interior, studio, workshop, man cave, shop display or prop setting. Perfect for tools, documents, vinyl accessories, display styling or simply as a striking industrial object.

Condition is very much part of its appeal: heavy age-related wear, paint loss, surface scratches, knocks, old marks, oxidation and remnants of old labels/stencils. Vintage British Army H83 Mk2 Metal Ammunition Box – 1969

A wonderfully authentic 1969 British Army H83 Mk2 metal ammunition box, full of rugged utilitarian character and age-worn appeal. Originally designed as a heavy-duty military storage container, this piece has the classic rectangular steel form with a hinged lid, folding carry handle and side clasp fittings.

The box is finished in black with orange stencilled markings reading “CON – BOB – AB 910”, giving it a fantastic industrial and military look. The surface shows plenty of honest wear, including scuffs, scratches, paint loss, marks and areas of age-related rusting, all adding to its appeal as a genuine vintage piece rather than a modern decorative reproduction.

Marked H83 Mk2, 1969, this style of ammunition box is commonly associated with British military surplus storage, including .50 calibre / general ammunition use. Similar H83 Mk2 boxes are currently seen on the surplus and vintage market from around £50, with more decorative or characterful examples sometimes listed higher.
