This richly decorated cylindrical tin once held 300g of authentic Nürnberger Lebkuchen, Germany’s most famous festive gingerbread, and is now a wonderful collectible for lovers of European Christmas history, vintage kitchenware and nostalgic packaging.

Design & Historical Significance

The tin features exquisitely detailed medieval scenes of Nuremberg, capturing bustling village life with knights, market traders, musicians and townsfolk. The lid proudly displays a portrait of Konrad Gross (†1335), an influential medieval patrician and benefactor of Nuremberg. Surrounded by rustic houses, stone towers and heraldic shields, the artwork evokes the rich cultural and monastic baking traditions of the region — an era when Lebkuchen was first created by monks and later exported across Europe.

Produced by E. Otto Schmidt, one of Germany’s oldest and most respected Lebkuchen bakeries (est. 1927), this tin reflects the golden age of European lithographed packaging. All items listed on Objet D'Art Stuff are antique, vintage, or pre-owned, meaning they have been previously used and loved.
