A wonderfully rustic vintage French wooden crate, full of character, age and decorative charm. The crate is constructed from slatted timber with nailed joints and simple corner supports, giving it the honest utilitarian look of an old working storage or transport box.

The front is stencilled with “RBF” and “REIMS”, with a further partially worn name champagne or marking to the central slat. Reims is one of the great historic centres of the Champagne region, closely associated with Champagne production, cellars, commerce and regional trade. Britannica notes that Reims, together with Épernay, forms the industrial centre of the Champagne wine district, while Champagne’s historic vineyards, houses and cellars are recognised by UNESCO for their role in the development of sparkling wine production.

The exact company or maker behind the initials RBF has not been confirmed, and the worn stencil makes the middle wording difficult to read with certainty. ( Champagne) It may relate to a local producer, merchant, supplier, packing firm or regional business connected with Reims.
