Crawford's biscuits originated in Scotland in 1813 as a bakery making ship's biscuits. William Crawford bought the business in 1856 and expanded it significantly, building large factories in both Leith, Scotland, and Liverpool, England. The company grew to become one of Britain's largest biscuit manufacturers, and was acquired by United Biscuits in 1960, though the Crawford's brand remains in use today.
1813: The bakery began on The Shore in Leith, Scotland, initially producing ship's biscuits.
1856: William Crawford purchased the bakery and began expanding the business.
1879: A large factory was built in Leith, Scotland.
1897: The company opened a major new factory in Liverpool, England, after brothers Archibald and James stopped there on their way to Australia.
1920s: The company became a major national brand.
1960: United Biscuits acquired Crawford's, making it one of its brands.
1970: The Leith factory was closed by United Biscuits.
1984-1987: Manufacturing operations at the Liverpool factory were wound down and eventually closed.
Present: The Crawford's brand is still used by United Biscuits today for a variety of biscuits.

Great item, was a glass jar with contents, well packaged, with a fragile label attached, arrived no problems. A near perfect example of a 50s/60s Hopkin and Williams chemical bottle. The postage was fair, the item was as described and a good value, especially with contents.
