Vintage Rentokil Mothproofer Bottle with Original Label – DDT / Geigy – Mid-Century Advertising Collectable

.

A wonderfully evocative piece of post-war domestic history, this original Rentokil Mothproofer bottle captures the optimism – and the realities – of mid-20th century household care.

.

Produced in the late 1940s to early 1950s, the clear glass bottle retains its original screw cap and aged paper label, featuring classic period artwork and the memorable slogan: “Would have saved this garment.” The label also notes that the product contained DDT supplied by Geigy, placing it firmly within the era when this chemical was widely promoted as a modern solution for protecting clothing and household textiles.

.

The design reflects the priorities of post-war Britain, when preserving clothing, carpets and furnishings was essential.

.

Today, it stands as a fascinating reminder of changing attitudes toward science, domestic life and environmental awareness.

This piece makes an unusual and conversation-starting addition to collections of:

Vintage advertising and packaging

Scientific or chemical history

Apothecary or laboratory display

Mid-century domestic memorabilia

Environmental or social history ephemera
