This beautifully detailed antique metal picture frame aperture mount dates to the late Victorian period and would originally have formed the decorative inner surround of a small tabletop or miniature picture frame.

Cast in metal and richly embellished with turquoise-coloured cabochons and clear paste stones, the design borrows heavily from Victorian jewellery aesthetics, transforming even the simplest photograph or miniature portrait into a treasured display.

The mount is square in form with a circular central opening, framed by scrolling foliate decoration and symmetrical jewel-like detailing. Pieces such as this were designed to sit directly behind the glass within a frame, acting as an ornate visual window onto the image beneath.
