Vintage 1943 WWII possiblyUS Navy Bofor brass shell casing (trench art). This small shell casing would make a great paper weight or desktop item, repurposed as trench art. Some age related wear. Marked on base 1943.

US Navy 40mm Mark II MOD I Bofor Artillery Shell casing, likely made of brass. The markings "OT" and "194" are visible on the base.
The Bofors 40mm gun was a widely used anti-aircraft gun during World War II, known for its speed and precision. It was utilized by various nations, including the US Navy. The gun fired 40 x 311mm R shells, with a shell weight of approximately 0.9 kg. The overall length of the shell is around 180mm.
The Bofors gun was mounted on various platforms, including ships, trucks, and fixed positions. This particular shell casing would have been part of the ammunition used by one of these guns.
