The Arts and Crafts movement was a late 19th and early 20th century design movement that emphasized handcrafted goods and traditional skills as a reaction against the mass production and poor quality of the Industrial Revolution. It valued the aesthetic unity of objects and their functionality, seeking to create beautiful and useful items for everyday life.

Mirrors, have a history tied to the evolution of grooming and personal spaces. Their origins trace back to the 18th and 19th centuries, evolving from simple designs to more elaborate styles that reflect the tastes of different periods like Georgian, Victorian, and Art Deco.

-

Early Origins and Evolution:

18th Century:

Swing mirrors were initially designed with functionality in mind, often featuring a simple oval or rectangular frame with supports that allowed for adjustment.

Georgian Period:

Mirrors from this era often showcased elegant designs with mahogany frames, brass fittings for adjustment, and sometimes included small drawers.

Victorian Era:

The Victorian period saw a rise in more ornate and larger swing mirrors, often with elaborate carvings and veneered bases.

Early 20th Century (Art Deco):

The Art Deco style brought a shift towards sleek lines and geometric shapes, with materials like chrome and new technologies influencing mirror designs.
