A beautiful vintage Lalique France “Bagatelle” crystal vase, richly decorated in relief with birds, berries and scrolling foliage. The design is one of Lalique’s most charming nature-inspired patterns, with little birds appearing to nestle among branches, leaves and rounded berries. The contrast between the clear polished crystal and the soft satin-frosted finish gives the piece its wonderful depth and movement.

The vase is signed Lalique France to the base. The mark appears consistent with a later 20th-century Lalique France production rather than an earlier pre-war René Lalique example, I would list it as vintage Lalique France, after the original 1939 design.

The Bagatelle pattern was first drawn in 1939 and is one of Lalique’s enduring naturalist designs. Auction references describe it as a clear and frosted glass vase, moulded with birds and foliage, with later examples often engraved Lalique France. Christie’s recorded a late 20th-century example selling for £812 against a £500–£700 estimate, which shows the strength of the model when presented well. Lalique retailers also describe Bagatelle as an emblematic design first drawn in 1939.

Condition:

Good vintage condition overall, with visible surface scratching and wear to the underside/very minor nibbles to the base area, as shown. The relief decoration looks crisp and attractive, with the birds and foliage displaying beautifully. the rim and raised berries and most importantly the top rim is unmarked “no chips or cracks” to the main body or top I believe this is an early example possibly 1950s?
