Antique Maidstone Distillery Black Glass Spirit Bottle – Late 19th / Early 20th Century

-

A fine example of a Victorian spirit bottle, this embossed black glass piece comes from the historic Maidstone Distillery in Kent, a name synonymous with high-quality gin production during the 18th and 19th centuries.

-

Made in deep olive-black glass, the bottle features bold embossed lettering reading “MAIDSTONE DISTILLERY”, leaving no doubt as to its prestigious origin. Its cylindrical, tapering body and applied double-collar lip are typical of bottles produced between circa 1870 and 1910, a period when Maidstone was one of the leading centres of gin distillation in England.

-

The glass was deliberately produced in this dark tone to protect the spirits from light, while the embossed branding helped prevent fraudulent refilling – a mark of authenticity and reputation.
