Vintage 1930s–1950s Hand-Finished Ceramic Vanity Pot with Floral Lid
Vintage 1930s–1950s Hand-Finished Ceramic Vanity Pot with Floral Lid
-
This charming vintage vanity or trinket pot dates from the 1930s to 1950s and embodies the understated elegance of early-mid 20th-century domestic ceramics.
-
Beautifully hand-finished on a wheel, the base retains distinctive concentric ridges left by the potter’s turning process. At the centre lies the faint ghost of a maker’s mark, now worn smooth with time — a quiet testament to its age and use.
-
The pot’s exterior is coated in a soft sage-green glaze, a colour fashionable in the interwar and post-war decades for its association with calm and freshness. The interior is glazed in glossy white, giving it a clean, enamel-like finish typical of dressing-table ware.
-
The lid is decorated with a delicate transfer print of anemones and poppies, softly faded from age, lending a romantic, nostalgic charm. The floral motif would have appealed to the 1930s–40s aesthetic of beauty and refinement — making this piece ideal for holding powder, trinkets, or keepsakes.
-
Likely of Staffordshire or French provincial origin, it shares characteristics with designs produced by Royal Winton, Crown Devon, and Myott during the period, all known for their feminine pastel ceramics and transfer-printed florals.
-
Today, it makes a lovely decorative accent for vintage interiors, or a charming collectible vanity pot for anyone drawn to the romance of pre-war craftsmanship.
