Vintage Three Mountaineers Asheville Display Cabinet Table / Jewellery Collector’s Case

A charming vintage wooden display cabinet table by Three Mountaineers, Asheville, North Carolina, beautifully made in a dark stained wood with a glass lift-up lid, brass hinges, chain stay and front brass clasp. Inside, the case is divided into multiple display compartments, each lined with aged olive-green velvet/baize,may have been added at a later time?giving it a wonderfully atmospheric old-shop, collector’s cabinet feel.

This piece is ideal for displaying jewellery, watches, medals, coins, curios, mineral specimens, small antiques, vintage brooches, sewing items or treasured keepsakes. It has the look of a miniature museum cabinet or gentleman’s collector’s case, with the glass top allowing the contents to be viewed while keeping them protected.

The underside retains its original green circular label reading “Three Mountaineers, Asheville, N.C.” — a lovely maker’s detail that connects the piece to the craft and souvenir-making traditions of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Three Mountaineers Inc. was a noted Asheville firm associated with mountain crafts, handmade goods and later wooden furnishings and decorative accessories. Buncombe County Special Collections records that Hugh Brown, Edwin L. Brown and William Lashley formed Three Mountaineers Inc. in the early 1930s, and that the business sold and shipped goods across the country before moving more fully into wood manufacturing around 1940. The company continued for decades, closing in 1992. Asheville.com also describes the firm as moving from cottage-industry mountain handicrafts into mass-produced pine furniture and small giftwares, with products sold widely in the United States and beyond.

This example most likely dates from the mid-20th century, probably somewhere around the 1950s–1970s, when Three Mountaineers was known for decorative wooden household wares, display pieces and Colonial Revival-style accessories.

Condition is used vintage with plenty of age-related character. There are surface marks, scratches and wear to the stained wood, some rubbing and wear around the base/stand area, and visible ageing, dust and wear to the green velvet lining. The glass top appears intact from the photographs. The clasp is present, though no key is shown. The wear is very much part of the piece’s appeal, giving it an authentic vintage shop-display look, but please study all photographs as they form part of the description.

A distinctive and highly decorative vintage display table — perfect for a collector, antique shop display, jewellery presentation, curiosity cabinet styling or characterful vintage interior.
