A lovely antique dark glass whisky bottle embossed for James Buchanan’s, one of the great names in Scotch whisky history. This handsome bottle has a wonderfully solid, rounded form with a short neck and rich deep olive-brown glass, giving it that unmistakable late Victorian to Edwardian presence.

The embossing appears to reference James Buchanan’s Distillery and “By Appointment to His Majesty the king…”, which strongly suggests a connection to the Edward VII period. Edward VII reigned from 1901 to 1910, so this bottle fits beautifully into that early 20th-century window if the royal appointment wording relates to his reign.

James Buchanan founded his whisky firm in 1884, and by the end of the 19th century had built it into one of the best-known Scotch whisky businesses in Britain. He secured royal warrants in the late Victorian period and his whisky became strongly associated with elite and establishment circles, including Parliament and the royal household. By 1909, Buchanan’s whisky was the best-selling blend in England.
