Assif Safi is a Moroccan pottery artist. Safi, the city where he is from, is known for its pottery tradition and is considered the pottery capital of Morocco: 

History

Safi's pottery tradition dates back centuries and is influenced by the city's history, which includes the Almohad, Portuguese, and Alaouite civilizations. 

Pottery guilds

In 1940, craft cooperatives replaced the pottery guilds. 

Pottery school

In the early 20th century, Boujemâa Lamali, a Moroccan potter, established a pottery school in Safi. 

National Pottery Museum

Established in 1990, the museum provides a look at the history of the city's pottery. 

Sha'ba neighborhood

This neighborhood is home to about 100 potters and 130 traditional kilns. 

Blue faience

Safi is known for its lustrous blue faience, which was introduced to the city in the 19th century by a potter from Fès. 

Golden polychrome lusterware

This tradition was also introduced to Safi in the 19th century by Mohammed Langassi, a potter from Fès.
