Vintage Brookes-Beattie Glasgow Floral Biscuit Tin | Black Embossed Scottish Storage Tin c.1950s/60s
Vintage Brookes-Beattie Glasgow biscuit tin with black embossed hobnail finish and colourful floral decoration. A charming Scottish mid-century storage tin, ideal for collectors, sewing storage or vintage kitchenalia.
A beautifully decorative vintage Brookes-Beattie biscuit tin, made for Brookes-Beattie (Regd.), Drumchapel, Glasgow, W.5, Scotland. With its glossy black finish, raised hobnail-style embossed texture and colourful floral decoration, this charming Scottish tin has all the appeal of mid-century kitchenalia with a lovely cottagecore feel.
The tin has a distinctive casket-style shape with gently curved sides and a hinged lid. The black ground is decorated with vibrant roses and small blue flowers across the lid and sides, giving it a striking, almost folk-art appearance. The embossed dotted surface adds texture and depth, making it more unusual than a plain biscuit tin.
Originally produced as a biscuit or confectionery tin, it now makes a wonderfully decorative and practical vintage storage piece. It would be ideal for sewing notions, haberdashery, craft supplies, keepsakes, letters, buttons, jewellery, vintage display or kitchen storage. It would also suit collectors of Scottish advertising tins, vintage biscuit tins, Brookes-Beattie memorabilia, mid-century kitchenalia and floral decorative tins.
The base is marked:
BROOKES-BEATTIE
(Regd.)
DRUMCHAPEL, GLASGOW, W.5
SCOTLAND
Brookes-Beattie was a Scottish bakery and biscuit name associated with Glasgow, making this a lovely piece of local advertising and social history. The “Glasgow W.5” address places it firmly within the older postal district era, before modern postcodes became standard, and the style suggests a likely 1950s to early 1960s date.
Condition
In good decorative vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. There are surface scratches, small chips and scuffs to the black finish, particularly around the edges and corners, along with some rubbing to the floral decoration. The interior shows age-related tarnish, marking and surface wear from previous use.
The hinge appears present and functional, and the tin remains a very attractive display piece. Please see photos for the full condition, as they form part of the description.
