Vintage Iridescent Blue Studio Glass Pedestal Bowl Isle of Wight Michael Harris
At 7cm tall x 13cm diameter, this is a neat decorative cabinet-sized bowl
Displayed with other items illustration only not included for sale separately
A beautiful vintage iridescent studio glass pedestal bowl, richly coloured in shimmering shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, violet, bronze, gold and pink. The surface has a wonderful organic textured finish, almost like oil on water, pebbles, bubbles or natural mineral formations, giving the piece real depth and movement as it catches the light.
The bowl has a low flared form raised on a small rounded foot, making it ideal as a decorative cabinet piece, dressing table bowl, display bowl or collector’s piece. Despite its modest size, it has a very striking presence, with the iridescent finish shifting beautifully between blue, aqua, purple and golden tones.
The style is reminiscent of late 20th-century British studio glass, particularly pieces associated with the Isle of Wight Studio Glass / Michael Harris tradition, where vibrant colour, metallic effects and experimental glass finishes became highly collectable. It also has an Azurene-style quality, although it is being described cautiously as in the style of, as there is no visible label or maker’s mark.
Monart is another name often associated with colourful British art glass, but this piece does not show the typical Monart characteristics clearly enough to attribute it as such. Monart glass was produced in Scotland by Moncrieff’s and the Ysart family and is celebrated for its mottled internal colourwork and hand-blown forms. This bowl’s raised iridescent surface decoration feels more consistent with later studio glass design.
A lovely piece for collectors of vintage art glass, iridescent glass, British studio glass, Isle of Wight-style glass, Mdina-style glass, or colourful decorative interiors.
