The Bestyett bottle history in King's Lynn began with an Amy Surplus store, Stratfords, and was later purchased by shopkeeper Walter Chilvers in the late 1920s. Chilvers operated Bestyett as a mineral water manufacturer until the 1960s when the company was sold to Corona. The brand was known for its swing-top bottles and was a popular local soft drink before its acquisition and eventual closure.
Origin and Ownership
Stratfords: The Bestyett brand originated from a store called Stratfords in King's Lynn.
Walter Chilvers: In the late 1920s, Walter Chilvers bought the brand. He was listed as a mineral water manufacturer at All Saints Street in King's Lynn by 1933.
Operations and Products
Mineral Water Manufacturer: Chilvers produced soft drinks, often referred to as "pop," with popular flavors including cherryade, orange, and dandelion and burdock.
Bottle Types: Bestyett used swing-top bottles, which featured a metal clamp to secure the stopper.

Adcocks started in 1911 in Peterborough as a non-alcoholic drinks company called L Adcock, brewing ginger beer and dandelion and burdock in stone jars, as described on Peterborough Images. The business expanded into the soft drinks trade in 1928 with a motorized vehicle and later acquired Hydrox Ltd in 1954, focusing on glass soda syphons and becoming a major syphon manufacturer.
Early Years (1911):
Establishment: Leonard and Sarah Adcock founded the business as L Adcock in 1911 on Huntly Grove in Peterborough.
Products: They initially produced and sold non-alcoholic beverages like ginger beer and dandelion & burdock in stone jars, with Sarah as the chief brewer.
Operations: Leonard managed sales and deliveries using a single horse-drawn dray.
Expansion and Motorization (1920s-1950s):
First Vehicle: In 1928, the company acquired its first motor vehicle, a Ford Model T van, marking its entry into the local soft drinks trade under the name Adcocks (Peterborough).
Hydrox Ltd Acquisition: In 1954, Adcocks purchased Hydrox Ltd, a move that shifted their focus.
Focus on Soda Syphons (Post-1954):
Glass Syphon Production: After acquiring Hydrox Ltd, Adcocks began producing their own brand of glass soda syphons to support their soft drinks business.
