.

A beautiful and elegant Edwardian cut glass scent bottle featuring a decorative hallmarked silver lid, likely made in Birmingham in 1904. Pieces such as this were typically used to hold perfume, smelling salts, or toilet water and would have been part of a refined dressing table set during the early 20th century.

.

The tall cylindrical bottle is made from clear cut glass with vertical fluting, giving the piece a graceful, architectural look that catches the light beautifully. The base is neatly faceted, adding weight and stability.

.

The silver lid is particularly charming, decorated with a repoussé floral design surrounded by a pierced border. These small holes allowed fragrance to escape gently when used with a dab of perfume or pot-pourri style scent material. The lid shows the soft patina expected from antique silver and appears consistent with Birmingham assay work from the Edwardian period (circa 1904).

.

Silver items from Birmingham during this period were produced by many specialist silversmiths who supplied dressing table accessories to luxury retailers across Britain. While the maker’s mark is not clearly visible in the photographs, the style is typical of Birmingham vanity and toiletry silverware produced in the late Victorian and Edwardian era.

.

This piece would make a lovely addition to a vanity collection, antique perfume display, or Edwardian dressing table arrangement.

Why We Love It

Elegant, understated and beautifully tactile, this is the sort of small Edwardian luxury that once sat proudly on a dressing table beside perfume bottles and hairbrush sets. The combination of cut glass and Birmingham silver captures the refined craftsmanship of the period.
