Antique Edwardian / Late Victorian Inlaid Wooden Trinket or Jewellery Box with Purple Lining
Add a touch of timeless charm to your dressing table or interior styling with this beautiful antique wooden trinket or jewellery box, dating from around the late Victorian to early Edwardian period (circa 1890–1910).
The box is crafted from a warm golden-toned wood and decorated with darker wood inlay “straps”, giving it a refined but slightly rustic look. The edges have a gently rounded profile and there’s a sweet little escutcheon plate to the front — the lock is now purely decorative, as the key has been lost somewhere along the decades, but the lid opens and closes smoothly.
Inside, the box is lined in a rich purple fabric, now wonderfully timeworn and faded in places — the kind of patina that tells a real story. The divided interior suggests it was made to hold jewellery or small personal items, with multiple compartments (perfect for rings, brooches, cufflinks or curios). The removable tray reveals further storage beneath.
As you’d expect from a genuine antique, there are surface marks, scuffs, tiny age splits and wear to the lining, all consistent with age and use. Personally, I think this only adds to its nostalgic appeal — it’s had a life, and still has plenty more to give.
