Kellogg's Corn Flakes were accidentally invented in 1894 by brothers William Keith Kellogg and John Harvey Kellogg, at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, while experimenting with a wheat-based breakfast food called Granose. The flakes were originally intended for patients struggling with digestive issues. Will Kellogg later took the recipe and, after some experimentation, created Kellogg's Corn Flakes. He then established the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906, eventually becoming the Kellogg Company.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Accidental Invention:

The Kelloggs were trying to create an easily digestible breakfast food, using wheat, when they accidentally created flaked wheat (Granose).

Focus on Health:

The brothers were motivated by their belief in a health-conscious diet and the importance of whole grains, particularly for their patients at the sanitarium.

Corn Flakes Develop:

W.K. Kellogg continued experimenting and eventually developed a corn-based version, leading to the creation of Kellogg's Corn Flakes.

Business Ventures:

Will Kellogg, the businessman of the two, eventually bought the rights to cornflakes from his brother and established his own company to produce and market them.

Popularity and Expansion:

Corn Flakes quickly gained popularity, and Kellogg's became a major breakfast cereal producer, expanding beyond its initial focus on the health market.

Rivalry and Competition:

Other companies, including C.W. Post, also entered the cereal market, leading to a period of intense competition, known as the "cereal wars".

Kellogg's Legacy:

The Kellogg Company continues to be a major player in the breakfast cereal industry, with Kellogg's Corn Flakes remaining a popular and iconic breakfast choice.
