Early–Mid 20th Century | Factory / Workshop Lighting
This striking vintage industrial pendant light features a deep gloss green enamel shade with a contrasting white enamel interior, designed to maximise light reflection—exactly what it would have done hanging over a factory floor, workshop bench or warehouse aisle.
.
The shade has a wonderfully bold, utilitarian form with a wide flared rim, showing all the honest signs of a working life: small enamel losses to the edge, age-related scuffs, and surface wear that only add to its character. The interior remains bright and reflective, with minor chips consistent with age and use.
.
At the top sits a heavy cast metal gallery, secured with industrial fixings and showing a rich patina of oxidation. The twisted flex and hanging hook suggest it has been sympathetically adapted for modern use while retaining its original industrial soul.
.
Stamped to the metal gallery is “INDUSTRIAL No …” (partially visible), a marking commonly found on British factory lighting components rather than decorative domestic fittings.

Possible Maker & History
While no full maker’s name is present, this lamp is very much in the tradition of British industrial lighting manufacturers active from the 1920s–1940s, such as:
Benjamin Electric (UK & US)
Holophane
GEC (General Electric Company)
Revo / REVO Electric
Falk Stadelmann–style enamel producers
.
These firms supplied robust enamel and metal lighting to factories, railway depots, schools, hospitals and military buildings. Shades like this were designed to be durable, easy to clean, and highly functional, not decorative—making surviving examples all the more desirable today.
.
The colour is particularly appealing: that deep factory green was widely used as it reduced glare and eye strain in working environments.
