This is an antique wooden dough bowl, also known as a "Parat" bowl, particularly common in India.
Origin and Use: These bowls were originally hand-carved from solid wood in Northern India and were traditionally used for kneading dough and preparing dishes like paratha and chapatti bread.
Material and Craftsmanship: They are typically carved from a single piece of wood, often teak, and exhibit a smooth, tactile feel. The individual hand-carved nature means each bowl can vary slightly in size, shape, and patina.
-
Decorative Value: While functional in their original use, these bowls are now frequently repurposed as decorative accents, adding warmth, texture, and a sense of history to interior spaces. Characteristics: Due to their age and use, authentic antique dough bowls often show signs of wear, including marks, unevenness, slight scratches, and even cracks or termite holes, which are considered part of their character and authenticity.
