Antique William Dulley & Sons Wellingborough Green Glass Brewery Bottle

A characterful antique green glass beer bottle, boldly embossed:

William Dulley & Sons – Brewers – Wellingborough

William Dulley established his brewery in Sheep Street, Wellingborough, during the 19th century, with the business later trading as William Dulley & Sons. We believe this privately moulded bottle dates from around the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910.

The bottle has a deep olive-green colour, a rounded shoulder and an internal screw-thread neck. It retains a black vulcanite or ebonite screw stopper marked NBC 1934 within a six-pointed star. This stopper was produced for the Northampton Brewery Company and is therefore a later replacement rather than the bottle’s original Dulley closure. Bottles were frequently returned, washed and reused, making the mismatched stopper an interesting part of its regional brewing history.

The base is moulded with the number 2101, believed to be a manufacturing, mould or pattern number rather than a date.

A wonderful piece of Northamptonshire breweriana and local social history, ideal for a bottle collection, pub display, kitchen shelf or vintage interior.

Condition

In authentic aged condition with surface scratches, scuffs, manufacturing irregularities and considerable internal clouding, staining and residue. The embossing remains strong and clearly readable. The stopper shows age-related wear and is a later replacement. No obvious major cracks are visible in the photographs, but please study all images carefully as these form an important part of the description.
