A wonderfully evocative original Lock & Co Hatters cardboard hat box, bearing the firm’s iconic printed trade mark for St James’s Street, London. Cylindrical in form with its original fitted lid, rope carry handles and internal hat support, this is a genuine survivor from London’s golden age of bespoke tailoring and gentleman’s outfitting.
The interior still retains its inner hat former, designed to keep tall hats or formal headwear in shape while travelling or in storage — a lovely, often-missing feature. The exterior shows honest age-related wear, light surface marking and patina, exactly as you’d hope to see on an authentic working hatter’s box, adding to its character and decorative appeal.

Maker History: Lock & Co Hatters
Founded in 1676, Lock & Co Hatters is widely regarded as the oldest hat shop in the world, still trading from 6 St James’s Street, London. Over the centuries, Lock & Co supplied hats to royalty, statesmen, military officers and notable figures including Admiral Lord Nelson, Winston Churchill and Charlie Chaplin.
Their hat boxes, like this example, were produced to accompany bespoke hats and are now collectible in their own right, prized for their understated elegance, heritage branding and unmistakable association with British craftsmanship.
