Antique early 20th century oak architect ruler or builders carpenter measure - stunning!! I believe by the look, feel and quality of this item (unfortunately and surprisingly makers name) this is an antique ruler, possibly late Victorian, certainly early 20th century.

.

Some age related wear but wonderful patina which would have taken years to achieve. Would make a great display piece in an office etc ( stool not included illustration only)

✨ Vintage Wooden Adjustable Angle Measuring Tool / Carpenter’s Bevel Gauge

If you love a piece with character, this handsome vintage wooden measuring tool will be right up your street. Made from a rich, dark wood with metal fittings and a beautifully worn surface, this adjustable arm tool was most likely used by a carpenter or joiner for marking and measuring angled cuts.

.

It features:

🔹 A long wooden rule marked with hand-inked measurements

🔹 A pivoting arm secured with a wonderful old-style wing nut

🔹 A semi-circular protractor arc carved into the wood for angle reference

🔹 Metal stabilising brackets on either side of the pivot

🔹 Lovely patina and work-worn markings that show a life of proper use

.

The arm lifts and tightens so the user could set and mark angles — ideal for mitres, framing, roofing angles or fine woodwork. Today it would make a superb decorative piece for a workshop, studio, study, barbershop, café or vintage-inspired interior. It would also make a wonderful gift for a carpenter, maker, or anyone who appreciates well-crafted old tools.

.

📏 Approximate Size

• Length of main rule: approx. 90cm

• Adjustable arm: approx. 60cm

🧡 Condition

This piece is beautifully timeworn. There are scratches, handling marks, tiny dents, faint traces of old workshop dust and general patina from many years of service — exactly what you want from a genuine vintage tool. The wing nut tightens and loosens as it should. The item is structurally sound and displays wonderfully.
