Antique George Davidson Blackberry Prunt Pressed Glass Bowl & Dish – Rd 533040 – c.1908 Design
A charming pair of antique pressed glass pieces by George Davidson & Co., bearing the registered design number Rd 533040, associated with Davidson’s much-collected Blackberry Prunt pattern.
The set includes a larger clear glass bowl and a smaller oval dish, both beautifully moulded with raised blackberry-like prunts, decorative beading, scalloped rims and sunburst-style pressed detail. The larger bowl has a lovely open form with a beaded rim and repeating panels around the body, while the smaller dish has a softly frosted upper edge that gives it a wonderfully delicate Edwardian look.
This is the sort of antique glassware that feels both decorative and useful — perfect as a sweet dish, fruit bowl, trinket dish, dressing table piece, or simply displayed as part of a collection of early British pressed glass.
The registration number Rd 533040 dates the original design registration to 1908, placing the pattern firmly in the Edwardian period. As with many pressed glass designs, the registration number dates the design itself rather than necessarily proving the exact year each individual piece was made, as popular patterns could continue in production for some time.
A very pretty and collectible pair, full of texture, sparkle and period charm.
Condition
Good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. Early pressed glass often shows mould lines, tiny air bubbles, straw marks, slight roughness to moulded edges and other manufacturing characteristics from the period. Please check photographs carefully. Minor chips, to larger bowl on base hardly noticeable does not detract from the beauty of the item reflected in price ( see pictures) smaller frosted bowl is in near perfect condition
