Antique Victorian hobnail cut crystal and ormolu casket possibly French in the style of Bacarat/ Martin Beneto surprisingly with no makers mark.

The deep hobnail/diamond cutting, starburst base/ panel, heavy clear glass and gilt metal mounts ormolu do support a Victorian or late 19th-century style attribution.

A beautiful antique- Victorian hobnail cut crystal jewellery casket, with deeply faceted diamond cutting and a striking starburst cut panel to the base. The clear crystal has wonderful sparkle and weight, catching the light beautifully across the cut surfaces.

The rectangular casket is mounted with ornate gilt ormalu metal edging, a decorative clasp and a hinged lid, giving it the elegant appearance of a late 19th-century dressing-table or vanity box. Pieces of this kind were often used for jewellery, keepsakes, scent bottles, gloves, ribbons or other small personal treasures, and they remain highly decorative today.

The design is very much in keeping with Victorian hobnail cut crystal and ormolu-style mounted dressing table caskets. No maker’s mark has been identified, so it is listed carefully as a Victorian-style or possibly late Victorian cut crystal casket rather than attributed to a specific maker.

Victorian and the condition is good: one very small chip ( see pictures) to side not noticeable to the eye and does not detract from the stunning beauty of the item !! The lid over it's 100 plus years requires slight adjustments to fit snuggly see pictures
