Vintage Horlicks Tablets Tin – 9d Pre-Decimal Malted Milk Advertising Tin – Horlicks Ltd Slough – Empty Collectable Tin

A wonderfully nostalgic little piece of British food advertising history, this vintage Horlicks Tablets tin once held 20 malted milk tablets, priced at 9d in old pre-decimal currency. Small, tactile and full of period charm, it is the sort of everyday object that instantly evokes post-war kitchen cupboards, chemist shelves, lunch bags and bedside tables.

The lid is printed with bold blue lettering reading “Horlicks Tablets”, with the original ingredients listed beneath: full-cream milk, wheat flour, malted barley, potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate and salt. It is marked Horlicks Ltd., Slough, Bucks, connecting it to the famous British Horlicks factory and the long history of this much-loved malted milk brand.

This is a lovely example of a mid-20th-century advertising tin, likely dating from the 1940s–1950s, and certainly from the pre-decimal era due to the printed 9d price mark. Horlicks Tablets were designed as a portable form of nourishment, making this tin especially appealing to collectors of vintage food packaging, wartime and post-war social history, chemist-related items, kitchenalia and small advertising tins.

Its compact size makes it perfect for display in a printers’ tray, vintage kitchen collection, apothecary-style cabinet, shop display, prop styling or social-history collection.

Condition:

In authentic vintage condition with visible age-related wear, surface marks, scratches, rubbing, tarnish and patina throughout. The printed lid remains nicely readable with strong period character. The reverse is plain metal with scratches and discolouration, as shown. Please study the photographs as they form part of the description.

Please note:

This is an empty vintage collectable tin only. It contains no tablets or food contents and is sold purely as a decorative, historical and collectable item.

Approximate measurements:

8cm x 5cm x 1cm

A charming little survivor from the age of malted milk, old pence and practical pocket tins — ideal for collectors of Horlicks memorabilia, vintage advertising, kitchenalia and British social-history objects.
