Vintage Shubette / J. Offenbach Ltd Wooden Advertising Garment Hanger

Product Description

A charming vintage wooden advertising garment hanger for Shubette, marked “J. Offenbach Ltd.” and carrying the wonderful period slogan “Make a Better Garment.” The hanger is printed with the company’s former city presence: London, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow, giving it lovely visual appeal as a piece of British clothing trade history.

This is a beautifully simple curved wooden hanger with its original metal hook and printed branding across the front. The typography has a stylish mid-century feel, especially the script Shubette Regd. mark, making it ideal for display in a vintage wardrobe, dressing room, boutique interior, sewing room, costume department or fashion-history collection.

Shubette was part of the Offenbach family’s clothing business. The company traces its roots to Jack and Sara Offenbach, who began trading in Britain in 1913 under the name J. Offenbach. The business later became known as Shubette of London, a British ladieswear and occasionwear company supplying fashion to department stores and becoming especially associated with elegant party and evening wear. Vintage Fashion Guild notes Shubette’s particular strength in special-occasion ladieswear, including its much-loved 1960s little black party dresses.

The hanger itself likely dates from the mid-20th century, when branded wooden hangers were commonly used by clothing manufacturers, outfitters, hotels and retailers. Comparable vintage wooden advertising hangers tend to sit around the £25 mark, with more decorative or especially collectible examples sometimes listed higher.

A small but evocative survivor from the days when even a garment hanger carried a maker’s pride.

Condition

Good vintage condition with age-related wear, surface marks, small scuffs and some fading to the wood and printed lettering, all adding to its authentic character. The original metal hook is present. Please study the photographs as they form part of the description.
