Origins
John Harrison, a metal worker, was the first to receive a license to make electroplated goods in Sheffield in 1843. He employed George Walker to learn the process, but Walker decided to start his own company in 1845.
Founding
Walker & Hall was founded in 1845 by George Walker and Henry Hall. The company was originally known as Walker, Coulson & Hall until 1853, when Henry Hall joined the business.
Growth
The company expanded rapidly, opening branches across Great Britain and worldwide. By 1894, Walker & Hall had 1,500 employees.
Merger
In 1963, Walker & Hall merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co. to form British Silverware Ltd.
Closure
Walker & Hall closed in 1971.
