Early years
John Doulton invested his life savings in a pottery in Lambeth, London, to partner with Martha Jones and John Watts. The company produced stoneware ceramics, stone jars, bottles, and flasks.
Sanitary revolution
John's son Henry joined the company and helped pioneer the use of stoneware drain pipes and water filters.
Queen Victoria commissions
Queen Victoria commissioned Doulton to create water filters for her castles and palaces.
Move to Staffordshire
In 1882, the company moved to Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, to focus on fine bone china tableware and decorative items.
Royal warrant
