The Bormioli history can be understood through two main brands, Bormioli Rocco and Luigi Bormioli, which originated from the same family legacy but are now separate entities after a merger. The family has been making glass since the 14th century, with Bormioli Rocco being formally founded in 1825 and Luigi Bormioli established in 1946. In 2017, Luigi Bormioli acquired Bormioli Rocco, and they are now one consolidated company known as Bormioli Luigi.
Early history (14th century - 1825)
The Bormioli family has been involved in glassmaking for over 25 generations.
The family emigrated from France and settled in Altare, near Genoa, changing their name from Borniolle to Bormioli in the 16th century.
When the University of Glass of Altare was abolished, Luigi Bormioli moved to Fidenza and established the first glassworks there in 1825.
