Schweppes' history began in 1783 when Jacob Schweppe, a Swiss jeweller and craftsman, began producing carbonated water on a commercial scale in Geneva, Switzerland. Schweppes is credited with being the first to create commercially available carbonated soft drinks. The company expanded into England in the early 19th century, and by the late 1800s, Schweppes had established itself as a major player in the soft drink industry.
