Antique Hubert Thornhill Solid Silver & Frosted Glass Vanity Jar – London 1889
A refined and elegant late Victorian vanity jar, combining quality British silver with beautifully made cut glass with a star base — a timeless piece from the golden age of London luxury retail.
This charming dressing table jar features a substantial solid sterling silver collar, fully hallmarked for London, 1889, and engraved:
“Hubert Thornhill, New Bond Street, London”
The silver mount sits above a thick cut glass body with a star-cut base, designed to diffuse light softly and add a sense of quiet luxury to the Victorian dressing table.
Originally intended for cold cream, face powder, or toiletries,( possibly used for smelling salts?)still has reminents could be easily cleaned personally I think it adds to the history this piece reflects the growing importance of personal grooming and elegant vanity accessories in the late 19th century.
The jar retains its original inner glass lid, while the outer silver-mounted top features the characteristic open-centre design seen on certain Victorian powder and cosmetic containers.

Great item, was a glass jar with contents, well packaged, with a fragile label attached, arrived no problems. A near perfect example of a 50s/60s Hopkin and Williams chemical bottle. The postage was fair, the item was as described and a good value, especially with contents.

I am absolutely delighted with this item. It arrived by post quicker than I expected. It was very well packaged up and I will add it to my ever growing collection..I spent quite a while deciding whether to add this [item] to it. it is exactly as you described.
