Antique/Vintage Mahogany Jewellery or Keepsake Box with Mother-of-Pearl Escutcheon & Purple Velvet Interior

A handsome antique/vintage mahogany keepsake box with a warm reddish-brown tone, attractive natural grain, and a lovely aged patina. The box has a simple rectangular form with softly rounded edges, a raised black handle/knop to the lid, and an oval mother-of-pearl escutcheon around the keyhole, giving it a quiet decorative flourish.

Inside, the box is lined in a rich purple velvet/fabric, giving it a romantic period feel. It would make a beautiful jewellery box, letter box, sewing box, desk tidy, or display piece for a vintage dressing table or study.

The mahogany has plenty of character, with surface marks, darker grain lines and signs of age that add to its charm rather than detract from it. Lovely enamel cabochon to the lid ( probably added later)

Condition

Good decorative antique/vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. There are surface scratches, small knocks, marks, rubbing to the edges and general signs of use. The purple interior lining shows fading, wear, marks, fraying and some loose areas, but still displays beautifully. The mother-of-pearl escutcheon is present. No key included. Likely late Victorian to early 20th century in style, though not maker-marked, so this is offered as an informed estimate rather than a certainty.
