Antique Oval Swing Dressing Table Mirror – Edwardian/Victorian Wooden Vanity Mirror
Suggested Price
£85–£125, depending on size, stability and mirror condition.
For a strong, attractive listing with good styling, I would price it at £110. If the plate has obvious foxing, clouding or movement in the frame, closer to £85–£95 would be safer.

Description
A charming antique oval swing dressing-table mirror, full of understated period elegance and beautifully suited to a bedroom, dressing table, hallway console or vintage retail display.
The mirror has an oval glass plate set within a dark polished wooden frame, supported by two shaped side arms and standing on swept bracket feet. The overall look is graceful and restrained, with just enough movement in the curved supports and feet to give it that soft Edwardian dressing-table charm. The mirror tilts on its side pivots, allowing it to be angled as desired.
The dark wood has a rich aged tone, possibly mahogany or stained hardwood, with a mellow patina developed through years of use. The back appears to be an older wooden/panel board, adding to the period character. The glass itself is wonderfully reflective and decorative, with the sort of slight age and depth that modern mirrors rarely capture.
This would look beautiful styled on a dressing table with perfume bottles, brushes, jewellery, antique textiles or a small vase of flowers. It also works very well as a decorative prop for vintage photography, shop display or period interiors.
Maker / History
There does not appear to be a visible maker’s label or stamp, so it would be best not to attribute it to a specific maker. Mirrors of this type were commonly produced in Britain during the late 19th and early 20th century, particularly for bedroom suites and dressing tables. They were often sold as part of larger furniture sets, although many survive today as standalone pieces.
The oval swing mirror became especially popular in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, when dressing tables formed an important part of domestic bedroom furniture. The tilting design made the mirror practical as well as decorative, allowing the user to adjust the angle while seated. This example has the classic period form: an oval plate, curved side supports and shaped feet, all pointing to a date of around c.1890–1920, though without a maker’s mark this should remain an informed estimate rather than a firm attribution.
Condition
In good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with use. The wooden frame shows surface marks, rubbing, small knocks and patina, particularly around the frame, feet and supports. The rear panel shows visible age and wear. The mirror glass appears usable and attractive, with any light age-related spotting or imperfections forming part of its antique character. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
