The Liebig's Extract of Meat Company was one of the world's largest food production and cattle ranching enterprises

The Oxo cube was inspired by the Maggi company's "Kub", which was released in 1907

The cubes were developed to be more affordable than the liquid stock, which sold for a penny each

Use

The cubes were a staple in British kitchens

During World War I, the British armed forces were provided with 100 million Oxo cubes, which were individually hand-wrapped

The cubes were advertised to women as a way to improve their cooking

Ownership

Unilever sold the Oxo brand to the Campbell Soup Company in 2001

Premier Foods bought Campbell's UK operation in 2006
