This type of embossed amber bottle is strongly associated with mid-20th century European and British spirits bottling, when distilleries commonly used moulded glass bottles with raised lettering and imagery (stags, coats of arms, hunting motifs etc.) to create strong brand identity on shelves.

Whitbread brewery (many were produced by major regional glassworks supplying distilleries), the overall style, colour and embossing point to post-war production (approximately 1950s–1970s) when amber glass was widely used for spirits and liqueurs, both for aesthetics and practicality.
