A handsome pair of vintage wooden shoe trees, branded “Cheaney of England” with the gold Queen’s Award to Industry emblem. These are quality split-toe shoe trees with metal spring/tension fittings and brass-tone pull knobs, designed to preserve the shape of fine leather shoes, reduce creasing, and help shoes retain their structure between wears.
The underside bears the DASCO mark and size/model code 7–1128, indicating manufacture by Dasco, a long-established name in shoe care and shoe trees. Dasco notes that it has been designing and manufacturing shoe trees in the heart of the Northamptonshire shoemaking area since the 1950s.
The Cheaney branding gives these extra appeal. Joseph Cheaney & Sons was founded in Northamptonshire in 1886, with the company becoming closely associated with high-quality English footwear. Cheaney won the Queen’s Award to Industry in 1966, the same award emblem seen on these shoe trees, and later received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2016.
These are ideal for collectors of British shoemaking history, lovers of traditional gentleman’s accessories, or anyone wanting a practical and attractive pair of shoe trees for display or use.
Condition
Good vintage used condition, with natural age-related patina, surface marks, light staining and wear to the wood, as shown. The gold branding remains attractive and legible. Metal fittings and brass-tone knobs show age-related tarnish and wear. A charming, usable pair with plenty of character.
