This looks very much like a Dol-Toi wooden dolls’ house bathroom suite, probably dating from the 1960s. The solid carved/block construction and little gold-coloured metal taps and toilet lid are characteristic of later Dol-Toi bathroom furniture; documented Dol-Toi sets are described as being made from solid blocks of wood with gold fittings. Vintage Dol-Toi Dolls House Wooden Bathroom Suite – Bath, Basin & Toilet – c.1960s

A wonderfully characterful vintage dolls’ house bathroom suite, comprising a bath, pedestal wash basin and toilet, attributed to the well-known British miniature furniture maker Dol-Toi.

Probably dating from the 1960s, the suite is constructed predominantly from solid wood and is currently finished in white. The bath and wash basin retain their charming little gold/brass-coloured metal taps, while the toilet has its original hinged gold-coloured metal lid – a particularly lovely surviving detail.

The chunky wooden construction and metal fittings are characteristic of later Dol-Toi bathroom furniture, which was produced in approximately 1:16 scale. Similar Dol-Toi bathroom suites are documented as being made from solid blocks of wood with contrasting gold-coloured taps and toilet fittings.

Maker History

Dol-Toi was one of Britain's best-known makers of mid-20th-century dolls’ house furniture. The company had its origins in a business established in 1944 by Eric William Green and George H. C. C. Hind. Initially involved with caravans and agricultural buildings, surplus timber was ingeniously turned into dolls’ house furniture, developing into the Dol-Toi range.

The company went on to manufacture an extensive range of miniature furniture and household accessories, and original Dol-Toi pieces are now collected in their own right. Examples are represented in the National Trust's collections.

The suite is in vintage, playworn condition with paint wear, small knocks, marks and surface imperfections consistent with age and use. There is some wear and tarnishing to the metal fittings. The present white finish may be an old repaint, and traces of earlier colour are visible in places. These signs of its past life give the set plenty of authentic vintage charm.

A lovely addition to a vintage dolls’ house, miniature collection or display, and especially appealing to collectors of British Dol-Toi furniture.
