Vintage early 20th century art deco glass and copper toilet light box original not reproduction!!!!

the decoration and lettering are applied to the reverse of the glass: we can clearly see the word TOILETS backwards from inside the casing, together with the aged paint surface and areas of loss.

It also tells us a little more about the construction. The glass appears to be permanently housed within a fairly substantial fabricated sheet-metal box frame, with visible glued seams. The depth certainly makes an illuminated sign plausible, but there are no surviving lamp holders, wiring or other electrical components visible, It may originally have been backlit, or may have fitted into a larger illuminated arrangement, but we cannot prove that from what remains.

The substantial fabricated metal box frame has considerable depth behind the glass. This may indicate that the sign was originally intended to be illuminated or backlit, although no lamp fittings, wiring or other electrical components now remain, and its original installation cannot be confirmed. The reverse of the glass is clearly visible from the rear, showing the backwards lettering and the original painted decoration, together with areas of age-related deterioration to the painted surface.I’d also describe the frame simply as metal or possibly sheet steel, I believe it is copper due to the weight and construction definitely art deco probably from a theatre or cinema
