Vintage French Berlingots Eysséric Carpentras 250g Confectionery Tin Mid-Century
Vintage French Berlingots Eysséric Carpentras 250g Confectionery Tin | Mid-Century Advertising Sweet Tin | French Kitchenalia
Bring a touch of authentic French charm into your home with this delightful vintage Berlingots Eysséric confectionery tin, a beautifully preserved advertising piece from the famous confectioners of Carpentras, Provence.
Measuring approximately 9cm in diameter and 5cm deep, this compact round tin originally held 250g of Berlingots – the iconic hard, striped sweets for which Carpentras has been celebrated since the nineteenth century. The elegant cream and sepia printed lid proudly proclaims "Les Meilleurs Bonbons Digestifs" ("The Finest Digestive Sweets") alongside the Eysséric name and references to exhibition medals awarded in Angers (1864) and Paris (1875), celebrating the company's long-standing reputation for quality.
The story of Berlingots is deeply woven into the history of Provence. Originally sold by apothecaries, these distinctive sweets became a regional speciality before Gustave Eysséric transformed their production in 1851, helping introduce the famous peppermint and fruit-flavoured berlingots to customers throughout France and beyond. Decorative tins such as this were produced both to preserve the sweets and to reinforce the prestige of the Eysséric name, making them highly collectable today.
This example displays exactly the character collectors appreciate. The warm amber-yellow body is complemented by copper-coloured detailing, while the original printed lid remains crisp and attractive. Signs of age, gentle wear, surface marks and patination all contribute to its genuine vintage appeal without detracting from its decorative qualities. The interior remains clean and empty, ready to be displayed.
Whether displayed amongst antique kitchenalia, French country décor, advertising memorabilia or vintage tins, this charming survivor offers a wonderful glimpse into the golden age of traditional confectionery and Provençal craftsmanship.
