A wonderfully characterful vintage wooden millinery hat block, with a beautifully rounded crown form and warm honey-toned grain. Originally used in the shaping and making and displaying of hats, pieces like this were practical workshop tools for milliners and hatters, but today they are highly decorative objects in their own right.

The block has a sculptural quality, with a smooth rounded top, shaped lower section and a simple wooden base, making it ideal as a display piece for a vintage hat, shop styling, sewing room décor, haberdashery display, or as a decorative object in an interiors setting. The surface has a rich polished finish which brings out the natural grain of the wood, alongside visible knocks, scuffs, dents and old wear consistent with age and use.

There are no visible maker’s marks from the photograph, so it is best described honestly as a vintage wooden millinery hat block, rather than attributing it to a particular maker. The base may be original, later added, or adapted for display, but it presents very well.

Condition:

Good vintage decorative condition with expected age-related wear. There are visible dents, scuffs, scratches, small losses and surface marks to the wood and varnish, possibly a repair to the middle although it may have been carved as 2 pieces?all adding to its authentic workshop character.
