Collection of 10 Vintage & Decorative Art Glass Paperweights – Millefiori, Swirls & Colourful Designs

Price: £120 for the complete collection

Description

A wonderfully colourful and eclectic collection of ten decorative glass paperweights, each with its own distinctive character, colour and design.

From intricate millefiori style flowers to swirling ribbons of colour, delicate glass inclusions and beautifully suspended bubbles, this collection offers a fascinating glimpse into the decorative art of glassmaking.

The collection includes two particularly attractive millefiori style paperweights, one featuring a densely packed purple and lilac floral pattern and the other displaying a vibrant arrangement of multicoloured flowers.

Other designs include striking cobalt blue and white swirls, a charming white bird motif against a deep blue background, bright red coral-like decoration, blue and white speckled glass, aqua-green swirls and an unusual upright, egg-shaped paperweight with flowing golden-yellow glass ribbons.

Each piece catches and reflects the light differently, making these delightful decorative objects for a desk, windowsill, cabinet or display shelf.

A Little History

Decorative glass paperweights became popular during the 19th century, particularly in France, before developing into a widely collected form of glass art.

The millefiori technique, meaning a thousand flowers, involves arranging small sections of patterned glass canes to create intricate floral designs. This traditional glassmaking technique is particularly associated with Italian glassmakers on Murano, although it was also used by British, French and other European glasshouses.

This collection features several different decorative techniques, reflecting the creativity and variety found in 20th-century and later art glass production.

The individual makers and exact dates of these paperweights have not been established.

Why We Love Them

We love the variety of this collection. No two are alike, and each one has something different to discover, particularly when held up to the light.

They're lovely little decorative objects in their own right, but displayed together they make a wonderfully colourful collection.

Condition

Pre-owned decorative glass paperweights with varying ages and finishes. Some light surface wear and signs of previous ownership may be present.

One paperweight has a green felt pad beneath it, whilst another retains the remains of an old paper label.

Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and show the individual designs and visible condition.
