Vintage Radiance Devon Cream Hazel-Nut Toffee Tin – Doncaster – c.1920s

A wonderfully timeworn vintage confectionery tin produced for Radiance Toffee Works of Doncaster, dating to approximately the mid-to-late 1920s.

This generously sized oval tin originally contained Radiance Devon Cream Hazel-Nut Toffee and features fabulous period advertising graphics. The lid has a warm yellow ground decorated with hazelnuts and foliage surrounding a bold central black label, while the sides repeat the Radiance branding and wording “Devon Cream Hazel-Nut Toffee – Radiance Toffee Works, Doncaster”.

Radiance was a British confectionery manufacturer associated first with Scunthorpe and later Doncaster, where the company became part of the town’s once-thriving confectionery industry. The Doncaster address helps place this example after the company’s move from Scunthorpe during the 1920s.

What makes this tin particularly appealing is its completely authentic, untouched appearance. Decades of use have left spotting, rubbing, scratches, oxidation and surface wear throughout, together with some creasing and distortion to the lid. The interior also shows considerable age-related oxidation. Despite this, the decorative design and lettering remain remarkably clear and the tin retains plenty of character.

It would make a great addition to a collection of vintage advertising tins, confectionery memorabilia, kitchenalia or Doncaster social history, and equally works as a wonderfully decorative storage tin in a vintage-inspired interior.

Condition:

Good vintage condition for its age, with substantial authentic wear including surface spotting, scratches, rubbing, oxidation, edge wear and some distortion to the lid. The interior is darkened and oxidised. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
