Set of Four Vintage Natural Shell Trinket Boxes – Brass Mounted Coastal Keepsake

A beautiful and unusual set of four vintage natural shell trinket boxes, each made from real shell and mounted with aged brass or brass-toned metal fittings.

Full of seaside charm and old dressing-table romance, this little collection brings together four different shell forms, each with its own colour, shape and character.

The set includes a decorative cowrie-style shell box with an iridescent mother-of-pearl inset lid and ornate scrollwork mount, together with three hinged clam shell boxes in soft pearly white, blush pink and lilac-purple tones.

Each opens to reveal a naturally nacred interior, perfect for holding tiny treasures, rings, keepsakes, charms, coins, pills or miniature notes.

These charming little boxes were likely made as vintage souvenir or gift pieces, probably dating from around the mid-20th century, and they have that wonderful nostalgic quality associated with seaside cabinets of curiosity, vanity-table accessories and collected natural objects.

Displayed together, they make a wonderfully decorative grouping — especially styled with pearls (see photos for illustration only), perfume bottles, antique mirrors, shells, coral tones or coastal interiors.

The largest shell box measures approximately 7cm long. The others are smaller and vary naturally in size and shape at approximately 5cm.

Condition

All four are in vintage condition, with natural shell variation, surface marks, age-related wear and small irregularities/nibbles to the shell edges in places. The brass-toned metal mounts show tarnish, darkening and patina, consistent with age and use.

Hinges and clasps are present, though these are delicate vintage items and should be handled gently. The metal is untested and is being described as brass-toned/base metal rather than silver.

A gorgeous little collection for a dressing table, curiosity cabinet, coastal interior or vintage shell collector.
